Who Shot Ya?

All I want is my car.  Right now.

The good news today is that LAPD apparently has new leads into the death of The Notorious B.I.G.  This, of course, is good because justice should be done and, to be honest, I’m just really curious.  But it does bring up some questions.  Most glaring…do you really want to know who did it?  As a society it is important to know who is responsible.  As a hip-hop community we need to be prepared for the eventuality that we don’t like what we find out.  Biggie died 13 years ago and in that time his death has been romanticized to absurd levels.  If we find out that his death was indeed connected with Tupac’s it would reawaken all the silliness of the East Coast vs. West Coast rivalry. More importantly, those of us who revere the culture would be forced to live with the soul-crushing reality that internal squabbles led to the deaths of two of the genre’s most iconic figures (though I suppose you could make the counter-argument that they are iconic BECAUSE they were murdered.)  But perhaps what would be even more disheartening for so many people would be if the investigation reveals that Biggie’s murder had nothing to do with Tupac, nothing to do with Suge Knight, nothing to do with LAPD or the FBI or the RIAA.  So many ideologies have been propped up by these murders over the past thirteen years that it is almost inconceivable to imagine the effect of finding out that it was just some random thug acting alone.  Of course, this seems sort of unlikely.  But the fact remains that if the investigation yields results people may need to reinterpret their views on Biggie and Tupac and back up off the martyr shit a little bit.  Jus’ sayin’.

Maybe a car Wednesday?  Maybe Thursday?  We’ll see.

Back up off the martyr shit a little bit. I’m guessing it has nothing to with the LAPD. They wouldn’t be working on a cold case if they have involvement.

I vote for Thursday in a selfish way because it is convenient for me, but Wednesday is convenient for you and your wallet. Regardless, cars shouldn’t take this long to get fixed. It’s been over a month.

I personally don’t believe it had anything to do with LAPD. But this is a very widespread belief. The idea is that Suge Knight had LAPD officers on his payroll. I mean it’s extremely unlikely that there was a concerted conspiracy involving the department as a whole….but I don’t think it’s too far of a stretch to believe that certain officers could have been involved, and if so that wouldn’t rule out an LAPD investigation into their own. I mean…even if LAPD was completely responsible for Biggie’s death it would still be far from the worst shit they’ve been involved in.

That said….I don’t find it terribly likely. If I had to go with my hunch I would say that there was no conspiracy or anything like that. Biggie simply ran with a lot of bad people, made a lot of money, was too visible, and some fucker popped him. Open. Shut.
